Beyond the Penglantian Portal

Island Discusion Banner

Hello, everyone!

Very soon, everyone will be welcome to embark on a pirate-esque expedition on Club Penguin Island! If you have not heard, the “magical seal of a Penglantian Vault is weakening”. This “magical seal” is apparently on top of the highest waterfall in Coconut Cove (as pictured below). Let’s see if we can work out what exactly is up with this event!

PenglantianVault.png

Ever since I seized the opportunity to test Club Penguin Island during the geo-beta, I have always been intrigued by the penglantian lore around the island. If there is one thing you should know about me, it is that I love mysteries! To my surprise, Club Penguin Island appears to be saturated with them. I can only hope that these mysteries will continue to dwindle and grow as the island ages. Well, lucky for us, we are about to find out even more about the lost city of Penglantis… I hope.

Now, to be honest, I get a bit worried about how mysteries can be dealt with. It’s not the actual mystery itself I get excited about, it is how the mysteries are conjured that amuses me. In a game suited for kids, mysteries are bound to be a lot less complex than a lot of us would hope for. Nonetheless, playing Club Penguin for years and years has proved to me that the team do have the potential to go big! Or should I say small? What I mean by this is that attention to detail is what really matters. Mysteries are only good if they require you to think and explore them yourself. Fortunately, I know that the team behind this game can think beyond what is typically expected. Now and then, they post secrets that can be found during the mascot adventures – most of which I never knew about. Did you know that your specific input can change the way an adventure goes? Not in a drastic way, but there are several small secrets that convey the intricate passion behind each adventure. This gives me hope that the bigger mysteries, regarding Penglantis, will require us to think lots more.

In this post, I am not going to be answering the questions (mainly because we don’t have much information) because, instead, I am going to be asking the questions. To test how well-crafted a mystery is, we need to ask questions and come to some sort of conclusion on how much effort is being put into this mystery. Let’s begin by asking the question: why? Why is there a magical seal weakening at Coconut Cove? There could be an in-depth answer behind it, but we don’t know that yet. Alternatively, the team may have thought it would be cool for there to be a way for penguins to explore more penglantian architecture. The second option is probably the most likely one however I have faith in the team that this weakening seal will have an explanation.

Next, what is the purpose of having this pirate expedition? Is it for fun? Or is it going to set up even more penglantian mysteries? Or, maybe, it will be the conclusion to just one of the mysteries surrounding the lore of Penglantis. Not too long ago, I made a post about Rory’s potential involvement with the penglantian swirl. So far, not much has been teased about this. In the sneak peek post on Island News, Joe gave us minimal detail, but it appears that this event will be more pirate-focused. That leaves me to think that we won’t find out about everything – which is good! That is unless Rory pops up at some point. My rough guess is that the team do have a plan. I have watched as they have meticulously built the mystery through blog posts and the Cadence adventure, “Beach Bash”. I doubt this won’t have some story attached to it.

Finally, where will this Penglantian Vault be? This is the question everyone has been discussing. For this question, I actually have a possible answer! Although it’s important that we also try and nail down the significance of this potential location.

Pahtaitoh.png

In the picture above, we get a pretty good look at (what appears to be) the other side of the portal, thus being the Penglantian Vault! To a few penguins, this location will be familiar. That is because it is almost exactly like “Potato Island” (with the exception of the portal and the wooden post at the bottom-right). Potato Island is only reachable through a glitch that enables players to trespass the invisible borders of Beacon Boardwalk, i.e. they can swim away from shore. Getting to the island can be a little complicated! The island was named “Potato Island” by the community, and it is a cool hangout spot for players to show off their barrier-breaking sorcery.  Continue reading

Club Penguin Island | 1.9 Overview

What is new in update 1.9 2.png

Hello, everyone!

The 1.9 update for Club Penguin Island is now available to download on Android and iOS devices!

Despite being smaller than the previous update, there are several new additions to the game. The main part of the update is an event called the Rainbow Celebration. It is, apparently, that time of year when we get to see a rainbow migrate north across the island; it is a pretty magical (and odd) spectacle.

DotAs soon as you log on, you will get a small cutscene where Dot introduces you to this phenomenal occurrence. The whole of Island Central is decked out with vibrant colour and the skybox is a majestic sunset. Dot informs you of the Migration Shop and the rainbow geysers that appear every 5 minutes in Island Central. At the top of each geyser, there is a new collectible called rainbow drops.

What is there to do at this event?

Obviously, it isn’t as bold as the Halloween Party or the Holiday Party, but it can spark some joy if you enjoy waddling around and taking in the colourful awe surrounding you. Besides that, there are no quests or adventures to get up to; only special daily challenges, I imagine. For example, you could earn coins and XP for riding a rainbow geyser.

Speaking of rainbows, there has been a fair amount of exclusive items added to the game. First of all, everyone can obtain the Rainbow Star Tee (it looks great), as well as new fabrics and decals, by logging in during the event. Members exclusively get a Majesteed tube! It’sMigration Shop promising to see more non-member items on offer. Secondly, there is a new party supply members can purchase at the temporary store: rainbow smoothies! Thirdly, a total of 6 new igloo furnishings are available to buy at the store. In my opinion, that’s a good amount! Unfortunately, they are the only igloo items that have been added in this update…

Fear not, however! One of the exciting parts of this update is the addition of two new levels! It had been way too long since we have been given new penguin levels. Excitingly, the new levels indicate who the “purple mascot” is. A while back, I made a discussion on the “purple mascot” and predicted it to be Dot. Well, I was wrong! It is actually Cadence! It was a 50/50 chance, to be honest…

Level 25 and 26 can only be reached through the gain of Cadence’s XP. How can you get this new XP? There are only two ways, at the moment. You either log back on every day Wilderness Outfitto complete her new daily challenge, or you grind on the Island Central dancefloor by participating in Team Dance Battle. Fortunately, you get new clothing items, fabrics, gear and party supplies after ranking up. For example, you can obtain binoculars, bear slippers and an outback hat by being level 25. Sticking with the wilderness theme, you can unlock a Forest Wand. In addition, a chemistry beaker has been added to the roster of party supplies and can be purchased at any market on the island.

Coins For Change is Here!

Coins For Change is Here 2

Hello, everyone!

It is the 6th of December, which means that the Holiday Party on Club Penguin Island has begun! During this event, the whole island is filled with festive decorations and cheer. At Island Central, we must prepare for the Coins For Change feast by helping Aunt Arctic and Gary out due to some…technical difficulties…

Throughout the month, we will be able to participate in a number of festivities! Each festivity requires a community effort. Once they have been completed, you are rewarded with a holiday gift.

Also, there is the exclusive Holiday Shop (next to the feast table) where you can buy special igloo items and party supplies. The candy canes look scrumptious!

Holiday Party Opening

Of course, the highlight of the Holiday Party is ‘Coins For Change’! If you don’t know what Coins For Change is, it is an event where you can donate your virtual coins to make difference in the world. For every 100 coins you donate, the Club Penguin Island team donates $5 to help children in need. Their goal is to donate a maximum of $50,000! Already, over 1,000,000 coins have been donated on the island, which means that the goal has been surpassed within a matter of hours post-launch! After donating any amount of coins, you will receive a special Coins For Change emoji pack, so definitely consider it!

If you want, you can check out the opening cutscene below.

Stay tuned for more news on the Holiday Party this month. Make sure you log in to Club Penguin Island this month to donate some coins and help out with the festivities. This is the season to be jolly and I am looking forward to spending lots of time with friends online.

Happy Holidays!

Club Penguin Island | 1.8 Overview

Club Penguin Island - 1.8 update 2.png

Hello, everyone!

The rollout of the 1.8 update on Club Penguin Island has begun. Android users are currently able to download the update so that they can finally create their own igloo and check out the new ‘Olaf’s Frozen Adventure’ and ‘Big Hero 6’ items! There is also the new Island Live feature (a revamp of the CPI Phone) and some interface adjustments. This is only the tip of the iceberg, however. Starting from the 30th of November, everyone will be able to beta test the new PC and Mac version of Club Penguin Island! This is a huge leap in development and an exciting time for the community. In addition, from December 6th, players will be able to take part in Coins For Change and enjoy the festivities at the Holiday Party! As you can see, this update is huge!

In this post, I am going to be highlighting everything that has been added so far! Please beware for this post contains spoilers of the 1.8 update. If you do not yet have access to the update, you can feel free to read on at your own risk.

Spoilers

To begin with, when you first enter the app, you will see one of the two new home screens for Club Penguin Island – and they pretty much sum up the best parts of the 1.8 update: igloos and the Holiday Party! Below, you can have a look at them for yourself.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

As soon as you log on, your penguin will be rewarded with a ‘Holiday 2017’ pack. This contains a range of holiday-themed: fabrics, decals, a blueprint, a clothing item, igloo music and a bonus 500 coins! Moreover, you are given a new unique item: the Tester T-shirt! Everyone can wear this, which is a nice little surprise. To return the favour, make sure you give feedback to the team during the PC/Mac beta test of Club Penguin Island!

Providing you have logged onto Club Penguin Island before the 6th of December, you will get the opportunity to see some of the construction of the community feast (in celebration of Coins For Change). Firstly, you are greeted with an establishing shot of the construction at Island Central and Aunt Arctic (with a hard hat on her head) lets you know that the festivities will be available soon! This was a lovely touch to the update and the party preparation reminds me of Club Penguin…

Now, let’s talk about the exciting stuff…

…IGLOOS!

Igloos & InteriorsIgloos & Interiors is now officially open to all players. Just waddle over by the Igloo Trams and you will see the shiny storefront straight away. Igloos & Interiors is another market on Club Penguin Island, but it sells igloos and furniture instead of food! There is a decent range of items available to everyone. However, purchasing a membership will grant you access to a much larger inventory of furniture items – including a large igloo! Fortunately, you don’t have to be that stingy with your coins because the prices are relatively cheap. That means more coins to be donated to charity – yay!

Igloo Trams are now accessible and ready for travel. If it’s been a hard day’s work at Franky’s, you can pop by the trams and instantly be escorted to your own private zone. There are two other ways you can access your igloo too! You can find it on the map or you can explore the “My Penguin” tab.

Blogtober #9: Snow Beats Water

Day 9

Hello, everyone!

How would I explain the bittersweetness of this morning?

At 8:00am (GMT) this morning, the All-Access Weekend event ended…kinda! Dun-dun-dun! I could have laid in this morning, but I decided to check out the reactions of non-members a half hour before the event was going to end. I had a feeling I would see some angry faces and faces of woe. My feeling was accurate as I logged into Alpine early in the morning. To be honest, it was quite devastating to see. Non-members, who had never got the opportunity to become a member previously, obviously had such a blast last weekend that they didn’t want the membership trial to end. A lot of people, including me, would say “Now you know how fun it is, buy a membership!”. Of course, that would only target the portion of non-members who are sceptical about the game. The other non-members probably cannot afford a membership or are not allowed to purchase one.

It’s true. I felt sorry for a lot of penguins. But, what I saw this morning was also incredible! Again, get ready to listen to me talk about how amazing our community is!

01Before I do that, let me share one of the new penguins I met today. Her name is PorcelainQueen, but she is commonly known as MidnightStarX. While I was witnessing the community come together, she said: “Blue o:”. I heard the colour of my name…I mean, my name, so I turned ’round and greeted her back. She mentioned how she knows me from Twitter and that I am involved with blogs, yet I still had no clue who this penguin was. I was very intrigued and delighted that she was familiar with me; she even mentioned how it was an honour. I always feel honoured to make new friends, and luckily we became friends shortly after. I was still unsure who she was until the one and only MidnightStarX came waddling down the iceberg and sent me a friend request. It was a peculiar meeting, but it only makes this recount more interesting for you all!

Next, we both went to the welcome area and saw so many penguins talking about how 02sad they were about the melting ice key. At the same time, I saw happiness because so many players, both members and non-members, bonded together. That’s what I love about our community – everyone is willing to be friends with each other. Despite the blue sky, tonnes of fireworks were being rocketed into the air and a bunch of party blasters soared upwards and exploded into tiny fragments. This was the definition of unity. This was a perfect thing to see during Bullying Prevention Month. I hope that new penguins got that impression and consider joining our creative community.

As minutes passed, the ice key was close to fully melting. More and more penguins gathered. We shared food, we played games, and we were together. By the way, a shout-out to the flying pinata. That funky thing looked way too cool for us “flightless penguins” when it casually floated above the trampoline.

Celebrate Bullying Prevention Month

Celebrate Bullying Prevention Month

Hello, everyone!

October is a special month! As well as it is the month of Blogtober, Club Penguin’s Anniversary and Halloween, it is also the month of raising awareness for bullying.

Bullying is unwanted, deliberate and aggressive behaviour that is persistently directed at someone. It is important that it is recognised and stopped immediately whenever we see, wherever it happens. Luckily, Bullying Prevention Month is here to bring change.

In this post, I am going to highlight what Club Penguin is doing to help stop bullying and even give my own advice on how to handle bullying.

Be Heard!

Make sure you log onto Club Penguin Island this month so that you can receive a special Bullying Prevention emoji pack. It contains three emojis: an orange heart, a megaphone, and a pair of orange penguins. Whenever you are on Club Penguin Island, you can use these emojis to remind penguins of what to do when they feel bullied. They are also there to promote friendship and kindness, which is an important thing to celebrate this month.

In my opinion, it is vital that you tell someone if you feel you are being bullied. Telling your parents/carers, your teacher or an adult you trust will bring a second voice to the situation. They will be responsible enough to advise you on what to do if you feel bullied.

Firstly, if you are not sure you are being bullied, you should let one of the persons above know some examples of what has been making you feel degraded. Bullying can be verbal, physical, mental and cyber so lots of people are vulnerable to it today. In some cases, it may turn out that the bullying is not deliberate, therefore you should speak to the people who make you feel uncomfortable and let them know you don’t like what they do. Likely, they are your friends, so they should care about what you think and stop right away.

Secondly, however, it is best to let an adult sort out serious bullying done by someone you are not friends with. If it is done at school, you should tell your parent/carer or teacher and they should respond quickly. If you feel threatened to not tell anyone, you should at least let your parent/carer know and they should contact the police or confidentially discuss the matter with the headmaster/principal of the school. Either that or you could contact the police yourself and let them know that you feel threatened. It is very important that you don’t suffer in silence; there is always someone to help you.
